John Jorgenson and I first worked together when I wrote several arrangements for him to perform at the first Nashville Chamber Orchestra Guitar Festival in 2002. Our mutual enjoyment of the process and the success of the performance led not only to additional, similar opportunities, but also to our desire to collaborate on a larger scale work, one in which we could share the creative process. Tarantella and Reverie is the result of that collaboration.
For John and I, the new thing about this piece is that it was conceived on a larger scale. Tarantella and Reverie is not merely longer in length than what we have done in the past, but more and varied musical ideas are visited, and in the process, allowed to mingle and develop. We are also working with a larger ensemble than we have had in the past, which has allowed us to further enhance the variety of the musical ideas.
