JACQUELYN PICKETT
Bass

Biographer D. Antoinette Handy in her 1998 edition of Black Women in American Bands and Orchestras describes bassist Jacqueline Pickett as "...a perfect example of a late twentieth-century musician who is ready to move into the twenty-first century..." She has a Master of Music Degree from Yale University, and was the first person to receive the Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in Double Bass from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since 1988, she has been principal bassist of the Columbus, Georgia, Symphony Orchestra. Prior to her position with the CSO, she played as a section bassist with the Detroit, Michigan and Jacksonville, Florida Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Mineria Symphony in Mexico City. As a chamber musician, Dr. Pickett performs with the Ritz Chamber Players and the Nashville Chamber Orchestra. She has given solo double bass recitals in Johannesburg, South Africa and universities throughout the United States. Jackie currently teaches on the faculties of Clayton College and State University and Georgia State University, and she teaches classical double bass for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Talent Development Program.
